It wasn’t the best week in recruiting for Notre Dame’s 2021 class as a week ago exactly saw top-100 player and one of the nation’s top receivers in Deion Colzie drop his commitment to the Fighting Irish. Then Thursday saw the highly-regarded offensive tackle Landon Tengwall choose Penn State over Notre Dame as he announced his commitment.
Friday however brought a needed breath of fresh air for Notre Dame’s 2021 class as four-star defensive end David Abiara of Mansfield Legacy in Texas announced his commitment.

Abiara comes with a three-star rating on 247Sports and Rivals while ESPN gives him four stars and a top 300 overall ranking. What can be more telling to me is who else was in the running for his talents and when you see Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Wisconsin making offers, you know he’s a pretty talented young man.
Abiara checks in at 6-4 and 248 pounds and was a Texas District 6-5A D-I first-team selection at DE last season. He also helped Mansfield Legacy to a Texas 5A D-I first-round playoff appearance.
