Prospect for the Pack: Auburn OT Jack Driscoll

Breaking down the draft profile of Auburn offensive tackle Jack Driscoll, a potential pick for the Packers in the 2020 draft.

The Green Bay Packers must use the 2020 NFL Draft to provide the finishing touches on a team that won 13 regular-season games and got within one game of the Super Bowl during Matt LaFleur’s first season as head coach.

Between now and the draft, Packers Wire will periodically break down one top prospect fitting the Packers’ roster needs.

Up next is Auburn offensive tackle Jack Driscoll:

What he can do

– Lean but has similar overall length as Bryan Bulaga. 6-5, 33″ arms. Teams will downgrade him based on arm length

– Athleticism is a big plus. Has good feet and is an easy mover in space. Really looks comfortable on the move

– Schemes that need athletic and agile tackles who can work on the move will like him. The Packers are one of those teams

– Experienced. Started 46 games at UMass and Auburn, including 26 straight at right tackle at Auburn

– Highly successful pass-blocker. Allowed only one sack and just 22 total pressures the last two seasons, per PFF.

– Needs to add weight and power. Far from a mauler. Ability in the run game is still a work in progress

– Will be best used in zone run schemes. Auburn let him use quickness to beat defensive linemen to spots and win leverage

– Bullrushes can give him issues. Getting stronger will be very important to his long-term NFL success

– Looks a little awkward getting into true pass sets but almost always gets the job done. Really strong recovery ability

– Good, strong hands used to direct and disrupt rushers

– Really held his own against Alabama and LSU

– Didn’t do agility drills at the combine. Packers have clear preferences for three-cone and short shuttle drills. Some projection required here

How he fits

The Packers replaced Bulaga with Rick Wagner, who can only be considered a short-term option at right tackle. Driscoll could be an ideal developmental option to groom behind Wagner. He was a terrific pass-blocker for two years in the SEC and proved his natural athleticism at the combine. His fit in the Packers scheme looks like a strong one, given his ability on the move. Providing some time to add more functional strength could really give him a chance to be an effective NFL starter. By 2021, Driscoll could take over at right tackle opposite David Bakhtiari.

NFL comp

PFF likes Jordan Mills as a comp. In terms of size and athleticism, Driscoll is comparable to former Packers offensive lineman Daryn Colledge.

Where Packers could get him

Possibly Day 2. Maybe even early Day 3. Driscoll is a tier or two behind the best of the best in a very good offensive tackle class, but he’s a good player. Usually, good tackles come off the board sooner than expected. Keep in mind: Bakhtiari was a lean pass protector who the Packers got at pick No. 109 in 2013. Expect Driscoll to fall in that same range.
