One of the early free-agent signings for the Raiders this offseason was Maliek Collins who came over from the Cowboys. He followed former Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli who this offseason took the defensive line coaching job with the Raiders.
Well, another former Cowboys defensive lineman is coming over to the Raiders. His name is Daniel Ross and he has signed on with the Raiders according to his agent David Canter.
The 27-year-old defensive tackle had an unconventional route to the NFL. He never played football at a university. After two years at Northeast Mississippi Community College, he was recruited by the CFL’s Edmonton Eskimos.
Three years in the CFL and he landed on the NFL’s radar and was signed by the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent in 2017. He would spend the 2017 season between the practice squads of the Detroit Lions and the Kansas City Chiefs before sticking with the Cowboys.
The 6-3, 305-pounder appeared in three games for the Cowboys late in the 2017 season logging one sacks, two quarterback hits and 5 combined tackles including 2 for a loss. He then played in 13 games in 2018, putting up one sack, seven quarterback hits, one forced fumble, and 14 combined tackles, three for a loss. Ross could be facing some league discipline because last November he was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and unlawful carrying of a weapon.
