Boston Celtics rookie forward Grant Williams held an epic Q&A session on Twitter Friday, using the downtime created by league-mandated quarantine to keep in touch with fans and pass the time.
While a fair amount of the questions the Charlotte native received were indeed basketball-related, the self-professed nerd had plenty of inquiries that had little to do with the Celtics or Tennessee Volunteers.
The topics raised by fans ran the gamut from anime to zombie apocalypse, and the Tennessee product had some thought-provoking and often humorous answers to most questions poised by fans.
While we don’t know who was operating the team’s Twitter account during the Q&A, Williams didn’t hesitate when it asked him his favorite contest of the 2019-20 season:
Clippers game at home. The environment was playoff-like, teams were competing at a high level. Although for some reason my head hurts thinking about it😂😂😂
— Grant Williams (@Grant2Will) March 21, 2020
Though teammate Enes Kanter had a zippy comeback to Williams’ response.
Lol, playoff like 🤔
How many playoff game have you played ? 😂😂— Enes Kanter (@EnesKanter) March 21, 2020
And of course there were plenty of questions about his days with the Vols…
Beating kentucky at rupp and the SEC tourney then coming to twitter to see how much they say i flop. https://t.co/ggN7t4vscI

As well as their multiple NCAA Tournament runs while he was at Tennessee.
Whatever hotels in Nashville and the hotel for NCAA tourney in dallas. https://t.co/KhO33ITy7g

Twitter may not be the best medium for conveying subtle things, like how that creepy fan call is fun, for example.
Arkansas and the WOO PIG SOOWEE thing still creeps me out🥺🤫 https://t.co/LGwrfyp1rm
— Grant Williams (@Grant2Will) March 21, 2020
Though it is pretty clear why this is Williams’ favorite meme.

Hopefully the former Vol doesn’t make any bets, if he got word from teammate Kemba Walker how it could backfire.
Yante maten UGA. Bryce and auburn already done crushed my soul too many times🙄🙄😂😂 https://t.co/dQha9oirb4

Williams could have dug deeper on this one perhaps, but it’s a fine list just the same.
Jordan bone, allan houston/dale ellis, Bernard king, Admiral, Me. Tobias jrich kyle alexander chris lofton all off bench. Based off college. https://t.co/XlIng6Bhln
— Grant Williams (@Grant2Will) March 21, 2020
We even got a bit of an unintentional lesson about his former collegiate coach’s rotation approach.
Add them two but you know barnes don’t play more than 8-9 max 😂😂 https://t.co/t9TAjPKaPp
— Grant Williams (@Grant2Will) March 21, 2020
The North Carolinian also got some general NCAA questions about his current teammates:
Ask @Cboogie_3 about it going off his leg prior to that🤫😂 but by college rules he fouled him but it’s a no call and or Offensive foul any other level🥺 https://t.co/qRHqzveejX
— Grant Williams (@Grant2Will) March 21, 2020
And some more general basketball ones as well.
Zach lavine vs Aaron Gordon 😅 https://t.co/eCQtaa0pCD

Some question about the man himself were of course fielded, this one making fans like the author of this article feel, well…old.

And you have to wonder if this could be the burner account of a Lopez twin:

Someone should put Williams on to Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.
I know myself, @tackofall99, @semi and a few others enjoy anime as a whole! But of course dbz is tough https://t.co/DkA6zsVc8q

And of course, in the middle of a pandemic, games had to come up.

Comics are another apropos topic, given all the time many of us need to pass in self-isolation.

Though it seems they can be a bit tough on your wallet, at least on a rookie contract.
To Williams, anyhow.
I would love too until i realized how expensive they are 😂😅 https://t.co/bslzPDx22T

He revealed he watches other sports than basketball, which won’t hurt with the international fans.
ABSOLUTELY. Watch Premier league mainly but love to keep up with Serie A and La liga as well.
— Grant Williams (@Grant2Will) March 21, 2020
Williams also shared his thoughts on the phenomenon known as Weird Celtics Twitter:
Hope that one day i can get to a point where i’m loved as much as Aron Baynes on here. and weird celtics twitter i’dlove to see more of what y’all got https://t.co/AgTAEs16xH
— Grant Williams (@Grant2Will) March 21, 2020
But remained mum on his favorite southern fast food chain.
I plead the fifth. This is divisive for a Charlotte NC kid😂😂 https://t.co/KAlxbu1ZeZ

Williams likely chose well for his zombie apocalypse crew, given how hard-nosed and intelligent the team would be.
Marcus smart-Ultimate survivor and wild and erratic which you need
Tacko Fall- Great conversation, intelligent and would be first caught cuz i’d outrun him
Daniel Theis Swiss tool knife in life and in basketball haha https://t.co/FnaaIfxor4— Grant Williams (@Grant2Will) March 21, 2020
And things circled back to gaming pretty quick as Williams revealed his Super Smash Brothers preferences.

…which turned out to be maybe the most popular topic outside of basketball.
— Grant Williams (@Grant2Will) March 21, 2020
Even NBC Sports Boston’s Abby Chin got in on that conversation.
Oooh. Good question!!! #GrillGrant

We’re thankful for players going out of their way to do stuff like this here at the Celtics Wire.
These guys are just as concerned with what’s going on as the rest of us, and while they might have perks many of us don’t because of their jobs, it doesn’t make worrying about friends and family and the future who do not have those perks any easier.
And while there’s no actual, live basketball to enjoy, it’s thoughtful gestures like this that help us all take our minds off the less pleasant stuff going on around us.
It helps us focus on the passions and connections that keep us all glued together as Celtics and NBA fans, and reminds us that we’re all in this together.
