Report: Melvin Gordon took less for chance to play against Chargers

Broncos running back Melvin Gordon is really motivated to prove a point against his former team.

The Broncos are going to get a motivated running back in Melvin Gordon this season.

Gordon has agreed to a two-year, $16 million contract with Denver but he could have earned more from another team. Gordon opted to take a discount to play for the Broncos because he wanted the opportunity to play against the Chargers twice a year, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

On Saturday evening, KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis reported that the Bills were the team that offered Gordon more than Denver. ESPN’s Adam Schefter refuted that report, tweeting that Buffalo never actually made Gordon an offer.

Regardless of whether or not it was the Bills that offered Gordon more, it seems clear that the running back wants to get some revenge against his former team. Gordon spent the first five years of his career with the Chargers and his time with the team ended with a contract dispute in 2019.
