Here are Melvin Gordon’s contract details with Broncos

The Broncos have agreed to terms with Melvin Gordon on a two-year contract. Here’s how much Gordon will count against Denver’s salary cap.

The Broncos have agreed to terms with running back Melvin Gordon on a two-year contract. Thanks to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis, we now know how much of a salary cap hit Gordon’s contract will carry in 2020.

This year, Gordon will have a base salary of $1 million, a $4 million signing bonus and a $4 million roster bonus, according to Klis. His signing bonus will be prorated over the next two years so Gordon’s salary cap hit this season will be $7 million.

Next year, Gordon will have a $4.5 million base salary, a $4 million roster bonus and $500,000 game day bonus, according to Klis. That means his salary cap hit in 2021 will be $9 million.

If the Broncos cut Gordon next year, the team would take on a $6.5 million “dead money” cap hit, according to Spotrac.com. That would be money that had already been paid to Gordon that still counted against the team’s cap.

We don’t yet know how much of a cap hit new offensive lineman Graham Glasgow will have in 2020 but we do know that his contract averages $11 million per year. Using that figure, we estimated before the Gordon signing that Denver had roughly $22.45 million in salary cap space.

After subtracting Gordon’s $7 million, the team’s total drops to $15.45 million. That’s just a rough estimate. The updated salary cap number will be easier to estimate after Glasgow’s contract details are revealed.
