Potential No. 1 overall pick Anthony Edwards told college basketball insider Evan Daniels of 247Sports that he will be declaring for the upcoming 2020 NBA Draft.
The 6-foot-5 guard is widely considered to be in the conversation as the top pick in the draft after a stellar freshman campaign with the Georgia Bulldogs. In 29 games, Edwards averaged 19.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.2 steals.
Edwards has been touted as a player that can create his own shot and one that is lethal in transition. He averaged 5.7 points per game in transition, which ranked in the top five among all players in the country, according to Synergy.
“I think I should go number one, no doubt,” Edwards told Daniels. “That’s the only place I think I should go.”
Edwards is on the shortlist of prospects in the running to be the No. 1 pick.
LaMelo Ball, James Wiseman and Onyeka Okongwu are also considered by draft experts to be in consideration for the top pick. In the latest edition of the 2020 Rookie Wire Mock Draft, Ball is projected to go No. 1.
