Atlanta Falcons sign Todd Gurley to one-year contract

Todd Gurley is going back to Georgia, signing a one-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons.

Todd Gurley has gone from the NFC West to the NFC South. The former Los Angeles Ram wasn’t a free agent for long, signing a one-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons Friday.

Gurley was released by the Rams Thursday minutes before he was due more than $10 million from the team.

Gurley returns to the state he played college football in at the University of Georgia. The Falcons released Devonta Freeman, their top back, Tuesday in a move that saved the team $3 million.

And the clever ways around NFL labor rules continue.

Gurley rushed for 5,404 yards in five seasons as a Ram. He scored 58 rushing touchdowns and another 12 receiving. Gurley caught 218 passes for 2,090 yards with Los Angeles.

He gives a potent Atlanta offense another major weapon to go with quarterback Matt Ryan and All-World wideout Julio Jones.
