As the unfortunate pandemic continues to disrupt life across the country, over the past few days, the NBA community has begun to receive word that more members of its community have been infected with coronavirus.
On Thursday, shortly after the Philadelphia 76ers announced that three members of its organization have tested positive, the Los Angeles Lakers, it was learned, are now dealing with a similar development; two of the franchise’s players have, as well.
The news was first reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic. Charania previously broke the news that Kevin Durant was one of four Brooklyn Nets players who tested positive. Shortly after his report on the Lakers, he reported that one member of the Boston Celtics had, as well.
With the NBA already trying its best to determine whether or not it will be able to complete its 2019-20 season, the Lakers became the fifth known NBA team to have members of its organization directly impacted by the virus. The Celtics became the sixth, joining the Utah Jazz, Detroit Pistons, Brooklyn Nets, Sixers and Lakers.
To this point, Rudy Gobert, Donovan Mitchell, Christian Wood and Kevin Durant are the players who have been identified.

Neither LeBron James nor any other Laker player immediately commented after Charania’s report. However, according to the reporter, an additional sect of Lakers players will be tested for the virus on Friday.
This news comes in the wake of the league laying down new directives, including the recommendation that players remain in their team’s city and that team practice facilities be temporarily closed.
