The Los Angeles Rams released running back Todd Gurley on Thursday — just minutes before $10.5 million became fully guaranteed on the three-time Pro Bowler’s contract.
It was a move that seemed increasingly likely as the Rams failed to find a trade partner for Gurley. But given that the Rams gave Gurley a four-year, $57.5 million extension in 2018, it was still stunning to see the Rams actually release a player who was a superstar just two years ago.
The move frees up Gurley to sign a contract with the team of his choice, but in the meantime, he seemed — at least publicly — to be taking the news well. Better than Aaron Donald did.
Damn I got fired on my day off😂 #QuaratineAndChill

Shortly after Gurley’s release became official, he took to Twitter and made a joke about getting fired on his day off.
Hang in there, Todd.
Looks like he’ll have a decision to make as he practices social distancing.
