Ex-Chargers FB Derek Watt to sign with Steelers

The Los Angeles Chargers are losing a special teams ace.

The Chargers are losing arguably their best special teams player.

Fullback Derek Watt is signing a three-year deal with the Steelers when the new league year begins on March 18, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

Watt was drafted in the sixth-round of the 2016 NFL Draft out of the University of Wisconsin.

The 27-year old Watt paved the way for his former college and Charger teammate in the running game, Melvin Gordon. However, he was most coveted for his skill on special teams.

Last season, Watt played 79% of the Chargers’ special teams snaps, posting 16 tackles, which was tied for the most in the NFL.

He will join his brother, T.J. Watt next season.
