Report: Dolphins, Kyle Van Noy agree to terms on a $51-million deal

A massive deal for the Patriots LB.

Former New England Patriots linebacker Kyle Van Noy agreed to terms on a contract with Miami Dolphins, according to NFL Network. He and the Dolphins will ink a four-year deal worth $51 million with $30 million guaranteed.

Van Noy emerged as an elite linebacker in New England’s defense after the team traded for him with the Detroit Lions in 2016. The linebacker hadn’t reached his potential in Detroit, but in New England, Bill Belichick deployed Van Noy in a number of positions along the Patriots’ front. Whether inside, outside or on the edge, Van Noy excelled. In 2019, he finished with 56 tackles, 6.5 sacks, three pass deflections and three forced fumbles.

Van Noy has a connection with Dolphins coach Brian Flores, who was the Patriots linebacker coach and defensive play-caller. Flores surely played a big part in Miami’s decision to lure Van Noy away from New England.

With Van Noy departing, the Patriots linebacker group includes Dont’a Hightower and Ja’Whaun Bentley. Linebacker Jamie Collins is a pending free agent, with significant interest on the free agent market.
