The NFL finally got around to awarding compensatory draft picks for the 2020 NFL draft. The Pittsburgh Steelers were awarded a third-round pick, No. 102 overall.
The formula for the Steelers landing the pick was the loss of running back Le’Veon Bell to the New York Jets along with tight end Jesse James to the Detroit Lions paired against the signing of cornerback Steven Nelson.
The pick was in jeopardy at one point after the Philadelphia Eagles released linebacker L.J. Fort. The Steelers had to release wide receiver Donte Moncrief in order to balance the formula back out and assure the Steelers would get the pick.
