Update: Before this story was published, the Broncos agreed to trade a fourth-round pick to the Jaguars in exchange for cornerback A.J. Bouye. See the original post below.
Denver Broncos pending free agent cornerback Chris Harris has drawn interest from many NFL teams, according to a report from The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala. Harris and his agent are expected to soon begin trimming down their list of preferred destinations to 5-10 teams.
At the combine last week, 24 teams “met with” Harris, according to Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News. Harris did not attend the combine himself so Watkins likely means two dozen teams met with his representative.
The list of teams that have shown interest in Harris includes the Dallas Cowboys, Oakland Raiders, Houston Texans, New York Jets and Detroit Lions, according to a report from KMGH-TV’s Troy Renck.
Denver hasn’t ruled out re-signing Harris but the team appears “willing to let him test the market,” according to Jhabvala. Broncos general manager John Elway will likely wait to see what kind of offers Harris receives on the open market before making an offer of his own.
The new league year — and NFL free agency — will begin on March 18.
