Here’s a look at what Tom Brady actually said at the UNC game

It’s not what we thought.

Julian Edelman and Tom Brady caused madness this weekend during a trip to a UNC-Syracuse game. A camera cut to a closeup of the two New England Patriots, who were enjoying the game with sideline seats.

Edelman chanted: “He’s coming back. He’s coming back.”

Brady is a pending free agent, who can sign with any NFL team on March 16. In the meantime, he and the Patriots are free to negotiate a contract extension, though they reportedly haven’t spoken about the deal. So when Brady appeared to respond, many thought he might have said, he’s not, or, he’s lying. But that extrapolation appears to be one big misunderstanding.

NFL Network enhanced the audio from that video clip, and found out what Brady said. The cameraman asked Brady about what he told Jim Boeheim, who coaches at Syracuse. Brady responded: “He’s got it.”

In other words, Brady’s response had nothing to do with free agency.

This encapsulates how wild #BradyWatch has been. Every nugget blows out of proportion. And in this case, it was an enormous amount of speculation about nothing of consequence. Brady’s comments didn’t indicate his feelings about the situation. Surely, Brady is laughing at us all.
