At this point in the offseason, it can be difficult to sift through what is smoke and what is real. Given their situation, the Indianapolis Colts have been linked to almost every free agent that might be available on the market, including New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.
There have been reports of meetings with his representation and reports that refuted the meeting. With the need at quarterback and the immense salary cap space, the Colts have been listed as a suitor for every quarterback in the market.
But in his MMQB column for Sports Illustrated, Albert Breer reported the Colts are among the teams that shouldn’t be expected to pursue Brady if the 42-year-old does hit free agency.
The Giants and Colts aren’t among those suitors. You can cross them off the list. I was told pretty emphatically that neither will be in the mix if Brady does make it to free agency.
All of this needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Until the legal tampering period begins on March 16, nothing should be taken as absolute unless it comes from the team itself.
The Colts certainly need to address the quarterback position. Brady could very well hit the market if his terms aren’t met by the Patriots. But because those two things might be true doesn’t necessarily mean they will join up in free agency.
It is very difficult to sift through the smoke of the offseason and even more so for Colts fans given the resources the team has.
But it seems more likely for Indy to pass on signing the future Hall of Famer in Brady than it does to see him donning the horseshoe.
