Although Saturday night’s contest against the Phoenix Suns was the night that many believed Stephen Curry would make his long-awaited return to the Warriors’ lineup, he was scratched. Unfortunately for the Warriors, he wasn’t the only one, either.
After suffering a severely sprained ankle against the Lakers on Thursday night, Ky Bowman was added to the injured list. Draymond Green and Jordan Poole will also miss the contest.
With D’Angelo Russell having taken his talents to Minneapolis, that would leave the Dubs quite thin at point guard… So thin, in fact, that prior to the contest, head coach Steve Kerr mentioned that Kevon Looney would get some reps with respect to handling the ball.
Looney will handle the ball tonight, Kerr said. “He played some point in high school.”

In all likelihood, Kerr is half-joking, but half-serious. The Warriors simply don’t have many options in the backcourt, and Looney, at least in theory, should be able to enjoy some success handling the ball against some of the Suns’ big men. Andrew Wiggins and Damion Lee should each help with most of the heavy lifting with respect to the playmaking.
As Curry’s return seems imminent, however, Looney probably won’t be quitting his day job.
