Remember the taping controversy featuring the New England Patriots and Cincinnati Bengals last season?
The NFL’s investigation into the matter could be wrapping up soon, according to the Boston Globe’s Ben Volin. The report notes that the league’s security team has potentially completed its final interview and Roger Goodell will get the results of the investigation, though when he’ll reveal those results or dole out discipline isn’t known.
New England admitted the mistake quickly after a member of the team’s media crew were caught filming the Bengals sideline in Week 14. But the Patriots stressed it was an arm of the team separate from football operations.
It has always sounded like the result of the investigation and possible punishment will hinge on motive.
While the Bengals were furious about the incident and wanted the Patriots punished, another report has suggested the NFL’s investigation hasn’t turned up a link between the Patriots’ media and football operations.
