Report: Redskins have strong interest in Austin Hooper

The Redskins have eyes on a big target in free agency.

The Washington Redskins have often been linked to Atlanta Falcons free-agent tight end Austin Hooper in offseason speculation.

Now there’s some fire to the smoke.

According to ESPN’s Vaughn McClure, the Redskins are one of the known teams to have a big interest in Hooper.

This doesn’t come as much of a surprise, especially in the wake of Vernon Davis’ retirement and the severing of the relationship with Jordan Reed.

Hooper is an upstart tight end at the age of 25 who had 10 total touchdowns over the last two years in Atlanta despite a crowded room of receivers around Matt Ryan.

While Hooper’s market figures to be big, the Redskins haven’t hesitated to pay up big in the past for what they’d prefer and it’s hard to undersell just how important tight ends are to young quarterbacks.
