Philadelphia 76ers coach Brett Brown has had one of the more interesting tenures during his coaching career in Philadelphia. He has dealt with awkward rosters, a grueling rebuild, and a slew of injuries.
So with Ben Simmons out for a little while, this is nothing new to the coach who is in his seventh season in the City of Brotherly Love.
The Sixers will certainly miss their star leader, but it isn’t like this anything foreign to them. They have dealt with injuries to Simmons in the past as well as Joel Embiid, Nerlens Noel, and others. Brown does not blink in these situations anymore.
“You just go about it,” he said. “You get going, you really do. It’s a program that you sort of came in to at its ground zero level, we blew it up, and you’ve been here for seven years and you’ve seen a lot.”
Seen a lot is definitely an understatement. The Process will go down as one of the more scrutinized rebuilds in sports history and he oversaw that as well as dealing with serious injuries to a lot of main pieces along with dealing with a lot of shortcomings from his star players. He is committed to this organization and this franchise during his time with the Sixers.
“You’re very attached to the program you’re connected to the program,” he added. “You always want to see what was best for the program, that has always been our compass. Most coaches would end up saying the same thing and I’ve got faith and confidence that this thing will shake out and I’m excited in being the coach and leading that.”
Philadelphia will start Shake Milton in place of Simmons on Wednesday when they face the Cleveland Cavaliers on the road. This is the second straight game Milton has started in place of Simmons so this could be a long term move for the team.
