Bengals have already met with Tua Tagovailoa at scouting combine

The Bengals are meeting with all the top prospects.

The Cincinnati Bengals continue to work through the due diligence aspect of the draft process.

At the 2020 scouting combine on Tuesday, Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa confirmed he’s met with the Bengals already.

Tagovailoa will undergo critical medical checks in Indianapolis and won’t participate in drills. He’ll get another important check in March before seeing if he can work during pro days.

Bengals brass made it clear later in the day Tagovailoa is a prospect they’ll consider, especially given his body of work despite the hip injury.

Granted, none of this dashes the idea the Bengals will end up taking Joe Burrow at No. 1. He just confirmed he’d love to play for the Bengals — and he’d like to play with A.J. Green.

But the meet, routine or not, exists in a backdrop where Tagovailoa at one point was the consensus No. 1 overall pick in the draft before Burrow’s breakout. There isn’t a debate about No. 1 right now, but it’s something to keep in mind.
