Jarrett Allen’s big stops at the rim in the Brooklyn Nets’ 115-113 loss to the Orland Magic on Monday caught everyone’s attention at Barclays Center. Both jaw-dropping blocks came on Nikola Vucevic dunk attempts in the fourth quarter, and they occurred within a minute of one another.
But Allen did more than block a couple shots on Monday.
Although it came in a losing effort, the big man logged another double-double for the Nets. He scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
On the season, Allen is nearly averaging a double-double. He’s scoring 11 points per game, while averaging 9.6 rebounds. Though, this should come as no surprise. The big man entered Monday’s game having logged 24 double-doubles this season — which is how many he had in 80 games in 2018-19.
So, by logging a double-double on Monday, Allen set a new career-high for double-doubles in a single-season with 25.
Furthermore, Allen’s performance brought to light how there’s only one player 21 years or younger who has more double-doubles than him this year: Dallas Mavericks point guard Luka Doncic (30).
There’s still more room for Allen to grow, but his consistency at such a young age is another reminder that the Nets have a lot of talent on their roster — they just need their two most talented players to get healthy.
