Spencer Dinwiddie set a new career-high in loss to Magic

Spencer Dinwiddie has been asked to do a lot more in 2019-20 than initially anticipated. With that, he’s seen some of his numbers increase.

The year of Spencer Dinwiddie continues, even though he and his Brooklyn Nets teammates let a 19-point lead slip away against the Magic in their 115-113 loss to Orlando at Barclays Center on Monday.

With Kyrie Irving missing so many games this season, now bein ruled out for the remainder of 2019-20 — on top of Kevin Durant’s Achilles keeping him out all year — a lot has been asked of Spencer Dinwiddie. As a result, the point guard has put up some big numbers.

He’s averaging a career-high 6.7 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game. Most noticeably, Dinwiddie is averaging 20.8 minutes per game, also a career-high.

Last season, Dinwiddie averaged what was then a career-high 16.8 points per game. In doing so, he scored a career-high 1,143 points while only playing in 68 contests.

Dinwiddie and the Nets have yet to reach the 68-game mark, but the point guard has already surpassed his career-high in points scored in a single season. He entered Monday’s game with 1,143 points to his name in 2019-20 and now has 1,167.
