Ron Rivera explains why he chose Redskins instead of waiting for other teams

The Redskins coach opened up in a new interview.

The Washington Redskins appeared to get a big win with the hire of new head coach Ron Rivera.

Rivera pounced on the opportunity to interview with the Redskins and seemed to settle in as the top candidate well before some other jobs even opened up.

And for Rivera, it was all about the challenge and he liked what he saw, according to the Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs:

“It’s funny because everyone kept asking, ‘Why did you take the job so quickly?’ It ain’t about the money. I really thought about it. I could’ve waited on the Giants. I could’ve waited on Cleveland. I could’ve waited on Dallas. Those are the teams we kept hearing (had interest). This is about the fit, and the more I listened, the more I looked at it, the more I looked at the roster, that’s what impressed me the most, the more I knew.

Rivera also said he approached initial talks with some skepticism but that Daniel Snyder did a good job swaying him on the gig.

Undoubtedly, Rivera faces some big challenges in Washington. He’s got to get the most out of Dwayne Haskins while rebuilding a roster, not to mention an overall culture.

But to have someone this excited to tackle the challenge? That in itself is exciting for both the team and fans.
