Kyrie Irving likely to have surgery to repair right shoulder

Kyrie Irving has only played 20 games for the Brooklyn Nets this season.

According to The Athletic and Stadium’s Shams Charania, Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving “is likely to undergo procedure on his right shoulder” and will miss an extended period of time. Irving, who re-aggravated a shoulder impingement that kept him out of 26 games this season, has been playing through pain that required a cortisone shot.

While the six-time All-Star has only played in 20 games this season, he’s been stellar in the time that he has played, averaging 27.4 points, 6.4 assists, 5.2 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game, shooting 47.8 percent from the field, 39.4 percent from three-point range and a career-high 92.2 percent from the free-throw line.

The Nets, however, are 8-12 in games he’s played in despite and 25-28 for the season.

With only 29 games left this season, there’s the obvious possibility that Irving may not play for the rest of 2019-20.

Irving signed a four-year, $135.9 million contract with Brooklyn in the offseason.
