If someone gave you $1 million to spend in your early 20’s, what would you do with it? Go on vacation? Put it in the bank? Buy a fancy new car or a new house? Whatever you decide, we’d all be so lucky to have such a thing happen.
For Washington Redskins rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins, such a thing happened to him in the past year. It wasn’t due to luck — rather thousands of hours of hard work — but he was still confronted with the prospect of what he could buy with a million dollars. According to a video from GQ Sports and their series “My First Million,” Haskins spent it well.
- Custom Bentley — $250K
- New House for Mom — $750K
- Jewelry — $70K
- Vacation Savings — $5-7K
- Art + Clothing — $50K
- Rookie Dinner — $?
Not a bad ledger for a 22-year-old. Of course, that all adds up to more than $1 million, but Haskins noted that the $750K house technically wasn’t for him, so he wanted to highlight a few other items.
In the end, Haskins commented that buying his mom a house “made those 14-plus years of hard work worth it,” and that despite his lineman’s choice to pick the nicest steakhouse they could find and order every appetizer they could, he would do it all again. He also learned that “taxes are no joke,” which, same.
All he has to do now is continue to grow as an NFL QB, and there will surely be many more millions to come.
