NFL considering change to playoff structure as part of CBA negotiations

NFL owners want to make some big changes to the NFL playoffs.

When there is money to be made, why not figure out ways to make more of it? This is the attitude of NFL owners as they continue to work out a new CBA with the players. According to ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter, one of the big aspects of the proposal from the owner’s standpoint is the addition of a seventh playoff team in each conference.

In addition to this radical change in playoff structure, the owner’s proposal includes extending the NFL regular season to 17 games, drop the number of preseason games to three and have six games on Wild Card weekend. Having an odd number of playoff teams means only the No. 1 overall seed in each conference would have a bye week, making that No. 1 overall seed even more valuable.
