Antonio Brown on reunion with Tom Brady: ‘We would like to make it happen’

Could it happen?

Antonio Brown is trying to get back in the NFL — again. He has tried before, only to go on angry social media rants against the league. For now, he’s back to apologizing for his misdeed, and he’s back attempting to spin his bad situation into a roster spot.

Brown is facing allegations of rape and sexual assault in a civil lawsuit. He was also accused of sexual harassment and sending intimidating text messages by a separate accuser. Since the emergence of that news, the Patriots released Brown, who has been a free agent since September. But Brown doesn’t seem to be ruling out a reunion with one Patriot: Tom Brady.

Brown said he and Brady have stayed in touch after building a relationship with one another in New England during the receiver’s 10-day stint with the Patriots.

“You gotta have a relationship with a quarterback. Quarterback is everything. … I just think Tom (Brady) is a special quarterback,” Brown said on Power 105.1 FM. “His leadership, him affecting the guys around him, putting guys at peace and encouraging them to work as hard as he work.”

Brown was asked if he has spoken to Brady about playing together.

“We would like to make it happen,” Brown said.

Brown’s comments should come with scrutiny, as his behavior has been erratic over the last year. But he and Brady are both set to be free agents in March, when the 2020 league year begins. Brady is a pending free agent, who must wait until the new league year to sign with a new team. Brown can sign at any time, because he’s not currently on a contract.

The NFL hasn’t made an indication if it will suspend Brown for his allegations and accusations. But if he returns to a team, he would have to serve that suspension before playing in a regular season game.
