It is … happening?
The Oklahoma careers of Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray were capped off by their Heisman Trophy wins in 2017 and ’18. Mayfield captured Sooners fans with his fiery, ‘gets us’ bravado while Murray’s nonchalant, killer mentality was enough to win those same fans over.
At Oklahoma, winners of the Heisman Trophy are forever celebrated with bronze statues in Heisman Park on the east side of Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. The Park will have two new statues, and it appears as if the Sooners are ready to welcome Mayfield and Murray to its club of seven.

According to Vic Reynolds of the OU Daily, the two marked off plots of land are in fact for the statues of Mayfield and Murray. Which piece of land is for who has yet to be determined.
In September of 2019, the OU Daily reported that the statue for Mayfield was set to be finished in the spring of 2020. Murray’s is expected to be done by the spring of 2021.
The plots of land marked off are located on the southern and the second northern most part of Heisman Park.
Mayfield’s 2017 Heisman Trophy season consisted of 4,627 passing yards with a 70.5 completion percentage, 49 total touchdowns and leading Oklahoma to its third-straight Big 12 Championship and Rose Bowl appearance in the College Football Playoff. Murray, who was Mayfield’s backup in 2017, cleared Mayfield’s numbers with 5,362 total yards and 54 total touchdowns while winning Oklahoma’s fourth-straight Big 12 Championship and an Orange Bowl appearance in the College Football Playoff.
Mayfield and Murray will join Oklahoma Heisman Trophy winners Billy Vessels, Steve Owens, Billy Sims, Jason White and Sam Bradford with statues in Heisman Park.
Oklahoma’s spring game is scheduled for April 18. Time and other details have yet to be announced.
