DeAndre Jordan on the constant scrutiny of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving: ‘It is what it is’

During a recent podcast appearance, DeAndre Jordan explained why he thinks Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving constantly receive criticism.

Although the Nets acquired him at the same time as Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, DeAndre Jordan didn’t receive the same hype — even though the trio planned made a joint decision to play in Brooklyn together.

Part of what’s led to the heightened focus on Durant and Irving over Jordan is there always seems to be some controversy surrounding one or both of the superstars at any given time. They speak their minds and, usually, there’s a contingency of people who don’t agree with their comments or stance.

Then there’s Jordan, who’s right alongside his friends turned teammates, being exposed to it all up close.

During his appearance on Uninterrupted‘s “R2C2” podcast, Jordan was asked about the matter and said:

I think it is what it is. People just wanna say [expletive] to have something to talk about. You know, a topic to talk about. Same thing with a lot of different players. If somebody’s, you know, if they show too much emotion they’re moody, but if they don’t show anything, it’s like ‘Oh, he don’t even care about the game.’ … So, I think for them it’s kinda like, I can’t make the millions of people outside feel a certain type of way about me, but I know I can make — or I know that the 14 guys on my team know me.

Jordan and the Nets may still be without Irving to start their post-All-Star break slate of games. Either way, Brooklyn will face the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday.
