Myles Garrett’s first interview since reinstatement: What we learned

Browns DE Myles Garrett spoke to ESPN’s Mina Kimes in his first interview since being reinstated from his suspension from the NFL

Myles Garrett has completed his first interview since being suspended for his altercation with Mason Rudolph on nationally televised Thursday Night Football. The interview was on ESPN’s Outside The Lines and Garrett kept most answers fairly vague. Although the interview was not long, it was evident Garrett is still frustrated about the situation.

The first question Garrett answered was in regard to the reasoning behind doing an interview now and he stated, “it’s good timing”. He expounds that everything is done in regard to the situation and he is back in the league.

Mina Kimes, who is conducting the interview, asked Garrett about what happened the night of the incident and Garrett started with my favorite response of the interview, “I didn’t want to be out there.” I thought this response was honest and makes sense considering the game was over at that point.

Garrett is staying consistent still stating that Rudolph called him the “N-word” on the way down from the tackle and after stating this, Garrett immediately goes into explaining his dislike for the word. Kimes then asks Garrett’s thoughts on the NFL finding no evidence of the use of the word and after a big exhale Garrett states “Most quarterbacks wear mics in their helmets.”

When discussing the length of his suspension, Garrett also let out a large exhale and briefly discussed his frustration for his suspension for an on-field incident compared to domestic violence or drug incidents, which occur off the field.

The interview ended with Garrett talking about looking forward to next season and him mentioning that last season “left a bad taste” and he is looking forward to getting back out there. His “Stranger Things” shirt was outstanding.
