Rams free agent LB Cory Littleton is a must-have for Broncos’ defense

The Denver Broncos should be ready to make an offer to free-agent linebacker Cory Littleton.

The new league year in the NFL is just over one month away and it will be highlighted by the start of free agency.

Currently, according to Over the Cap, the Denver Broncos have $61.9 million in available cap space. That opens the door for the team to be aggressive and after watching the Kansas City Chiefs win the Super Bowl, Denver should have all the motivation it needs to go after upgrades for the team.

Only five teams have more money to spend than the Broncos.

One name that may not jump out as one of the biggest available, yet should, is that of Los Angeles Rams linebacker Cory Littleton.

Signing a player like Littleton would almost certainly include the team releasing Todd Davis, who was stout against the run and led the team in tackles this past season.

Though Davis is coming off a good season, Littleton would be a big upgrade.

Undrafted out of Washington in 2016, Littleton has been an absolute stud for the Rams and has positioned himself to make a lot of money this offseason. As a result, the Broncos would have to be willing to win what is sure to be a bidding war for his services.

In four seasons, Littleton has registered 315 total tackles, 8.5 sacks, six interceptions and four fumble recoveries. One statistic that jumps out is his 26 pass deflections, a big number for a linebacker.

But that isn’t surprising if you have watched this guy play.

You will be hard-pressed to find a better coverage linebacker than Littleton. The thought of him in Vic Fangio’s defense, lining up next to Alexander Johnson on the inside with Von Miller and Bradley Chubb outside is quite enticing.

He is super athletic and is one of those guys who is always around the football. Check out this play from Super Bowl LIII against the New England Patriots.

Littleton would command a pricey contract, but the Broncos need guys like this to combat the team in their own division that just won the Super Bowl.

As the Broncos prepare their big board of free agent targets, Littleton needs to be near the top of the team’s wish list.
