Lonzo Ball on Zion Williamson: ‘He’s only going to get better’

After a career-high night in scoring against the Blazers from Zion Williamson, Lonzo Ball had a warning for the rest of the NBA.

Zion Williamson continues to set career-high marks with each passing game of his young career. On Tuesday against the Blazers, he set a career high in points with 31, a mark that he’ll surely continue to break either this season or in the future.

Considering Williamson is doing all this inside of his first dozen games in the league, he’s established himself already as one of the best rookies in recent years. Lonzo Ball spoke about Williamson’s fast start in the league after Tuesday’s game.

“I mean, he’s only going to get better. He’s 19 and came in midseason. I feel like he’s still not in the shape he can be in. It’s kind of scary thinking about what he can do in the future, but we’ll take 31 points every night.”

In many ways, the Pelicans should feel vindicated with how they handled Williamson’s injury. Their patience in holding him out until he was fully healthy and ready to return in the face of much pressure was certainly a hard decision to make.

But as a result of their patience, Williamson has been able to hit the ground running to start the season and not look back. Few could have expected him to have this level of impact but it’s because of the way the Pelicans handled his injury that he is able to play at this level.

And as Ball mentioned, it’s only an upward trajectory from here.
