Stephen A. Smith is mistaken — again.
While delivering his opinions on why quarterback Tom Brady could help bring the Dallas Cowboys to the next level, Smith discussed the talent already on the team (with one player who isn’t actually on the team).
“Put Tom Brady, with his pedigree, his knowledge, his championship experience, in Dallas,” Smith said on ESPN. “I got Ezekiel Elliott behind me running the football. I’ve got this offensive line that’s going to protect me. I’ve got a No. 1 (receiver) in Amari Cooper. I’ve got a reliable tight end in Jason Witten. … I’ve got others as well: Terrance Williams and these boys.”

Willams is currently a free agent and hasn’t played for the Cowboys since October 2018. He briefly spent time with the St. Louis Battlehawks in the XFL in their debut season this year, but the team cut Williams before the season started.

While we’re poking holes in the argument, I’ll add that tight end Jason Witten is a pending free agent, and a strong candidate to move on. Even Cooper’s future is somewhat unclear in Dallas. Though he’s in line to get a big extension, he is technically on an expiring contract.
Smith has made a few mistakes when talking football (and baseball). It’s not even his first mistake about the Cowboys. He also once called Dwayne Haskins a running quarterback. He packed a handful of mistakes into a preview about the Chargers and Chiefs. The ESPN analyst seems spread too thin and unprepared for his unending duties.
