Zion Williamson erupts for a career-high 31 points in blowout win

The No. 1 overall pick became one of just four players in NBA history to have a 31-point game at the age of 19.

New Orleans Pelicans rookie Zion Williamson recorded a career-high 31 points Tuesday night during a 138-117 blowout win over the Portland Trail Blazers.

The No. 1 overall pick is the fifth player in the past 10 seasons to have a 30-point performance in his first 10 career games, according to ESPN Stats & Info. Williamson also became just the third player over the last 30 seasons to have seven 20-point games over his first 10 career games.

Williamson shot 10-of-17 from the field to help lead the Pelicans back from a 16-point first-half deficit. He added nine rebounds and finished 11-of-14 from the free-throw line as the Pelicans outscored the Trail Blazers 75-52 in the second half to seal the victory.

Williamson returned to the lineup on Tuesday after sitting out Saturday night against the Indiana Pacers due to a left ankle sprain. He showed no signs of any lingering injury after dominating the Trail Blazers as his size and athleticism proved to be no match against the opposition.
