Rest easy, Dolphins fans! Washington is all but out of the QB market

The Washington Redskins loom as a potential wrench in Miami’s pursuit of a QB — but they’ve all but confirmed they’re out of the market.

One of the biggest fears of Dolphins fans everywhere is that the Washington Redskins will pull a page out of the Arizona Cardinals playbook and — one year after drafting Dwayne Haskins in the 1st-round of the 2019 NFL Draft — double dip on the position and go after another quarterback with a higher ceiling with the #2 overall pick in this year’s draft.

That is, at this point, all but guaranteed not to happen. Yes, Washington will still have the chance to change their mind. But the presence of Ohio State defensive end Chase Young isn’t going anywhere. And more importantly, Washington has already begun to plant the seeds that they are fully committed to Dwayne Haskins as their starting quarterback moving forward.

The latest affirmation comes from Washington’s senior vice president of player development, Doug Williams. Yesterday, Williams spoke with the media at a “community event” and, according to ESPN, made it very clear where Haskins stands in the organization.

“The new staff knows that Dwayne Haskins is the starting quarterback here,” said Williams.

“The only thing that can happen is for Dwayne to give it back to them. It’s up to him to learn the playbook, wear the coaches out. He’s got to stay at the facility until they run him out of the building.”

That doesn’t leave much wiggle room for Washington to change course unless there are unforeseen circumstances between now and the draft. And that will clear the way for the #3 pick, via the Detroit Lions, to serve as the first real threat for Miami to have their quarterback of choice (sans Joe Burrow) swiped from them. And with Miami sitting only two spots behind Detroit in the order, the Dolphins have exponentially the best chance of any of the quarterback hungry teams in the middle of the top-10 to leap into the three hole and take the player of their choosing.
