Tyler Herro to miss second straight game on Friday with ankle injury

The Heat rookie suffered a foot injury on Monday night and did not play on Wednesday as the team began a six-game road trip.

Miami Heat rookie Tyler Herro will not play on Friday night against the Sacramento Kings due to an ankle injury, the team announced prior to the matchup.

Herro suffered the injury on Monday and did not play with the Heat on Wednesday night. He has been seen in a walking boot this week as the team is hopeful he can play at some point during their current six-game road trip that concludes on Feb. 12.

Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra addressed the injury on Wednesday.

We’re just giving him rest and treatment, trying to protect him from himself. He really wants to be out there and he was able to grind through it for the last 10 days. But we want to take care of this right now and make sure it doesn’t become anything more.

Prior to sitting out on Wednesday, Herro had missed just three games this season, two due to a knee injury and one for a sprained ankle. In 46 games played, Herro is averaging 13.1 points, four rebounds and two assists.

Herro was recently selected to play in the NBA Rising Stars Game during All-Star Weekend though his status for that event on Feb. 14 is unclear due to his injury.

Herro leads all first-year players with 99 made 3-pointers.
