Even while criss-crossing the globe, Phil Mickelson has found time to film a beer commercial in which he offers advice on adult male friendships.

More on that in a minute.

Mickelson may currently be as busy as ever. He’s in a stretch of playing five events in five weeks, including this week at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, where is the defending champion, and next week in L.A. at the Genesis Invitational.

Two weeks ago, he played in the American Express while also serving as tournament host for the first time.

He comes into Pebble Beach after a T-3 finish in the Saudi International, an tournament he chose to play instead of his “hometown” event, the Waste Management Phoenix Open, for the first time in 30 years.

The day before the Saudi event started, Mickelson played in the pro-am with a group of men looking to shape golf’s future. The grouping, as reported in the Scotsman, drew international attention because of its ties to the Premier Golf League, the name being used for a proposed global tour that promises hefty payouts for a small percentage of golf’s superstars.

On Wednesday this week, Mickelson took some jabs at the USGA and the R&A over the distance report. His comments were highlighted by this gem:

“I struggle with some of our governing bodies,” Mickelson said. “I struggle with it because we’re the only sport, we’re the only professional sport in the world that is governed by a group of amateurs, and that leads to some questionable directions that we go down. I wish that we had people that are involved in the sport professionally to be in charge a little bit more.”

Mickelson also revealed that if he is to play the U.S. Open in June, he’ll do so by earning his way in, and not by taking an exemption.

“I won’t accept it,” Mickelson said. “So I am either going to get in the field on my own or I’ll have to try to qualify. I’m not going to take a special exemption. I just won’t.”

And through it all, Mickelson has found time to film a new commercial for Amstel Light. It’s an awkwardly silly commercial in which Mickelson offers advice to a golfer who is seeking a stray ball and comes upon Lefty, sitting in a chair under a tree.

“A lot of guys struggle with adult male friendships. I mean, not me. I’m Phil Mickelson.”
