You could tell something was coming when Nick Patterson didn’t sign with Michigan in December.
The longtime 2020 tight end commit and brother of Shea Patterson was one of the first in the class to pledge. Yet, when Early Signing Day rolled around, the younger Patterson’s national letter of intent was conspicuously absent, usually the sign of something else to come.
That turned out to be prescient.
On Wednesday, National Signing Day, Michigan announces no new signees, indicating that those who had signed in December were those who would comprise the 2020 class. With Micah Mazzccua flipping time Baylor in January, eyes were on Patterson and what he would do.
And late Wednesday, he revealed his future plans, announcing on Twitter that he’s flipping his commitment to Princeton.

The Wolverines do have a four-star tight end in 2020 signed, in Burke (VA)’s Matthew Hibner.
Patterson was a three-Star recruit and had other offers from the likes of Dartmouth, Yale, Cincinnati and Georgia Tech.
