While Reese’s Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy attended the University of Michigan once upon a time, that doesn’t mean that the 18-year NFL scout is particularly biased.
Yes, the Wolverines contingent in the post-season all-star showcase was more than any other school, with six participants. But Michigan SAM linebacker Josh Uche showed out all week long, noted by several outlets as the top performer in attendance.
And what did Uche earn with his showcase? Not much it turns out.
NFL Draft projections released afterwards showed little-to-no movement for the talented linebacker and edge rusher. Recent projections still have him going in the third-round come April.
That’s astonishing to Nagy, who was obviously present all week in Mobile, watching Uche ball out, impressing draft scouts across the board. So Nagy took to Twitter noting his frustration that Uche isn’t getting projected in the first-round by recent mock drafts.
Hard to believe we’re not seeing this guy in any first-round mock drafts. Could make a strong case that @UMichFootball OLB Josh Uche was the best defensive player at the @seniorbowl. But that’s just what we saw. #TheDraftStartsInMOBILE

Despite the mock drafts not signifying any change in Uche’s status, he did draw a lot of praise coming off of his week in Alabama.
Assuredly, once he participates in the NFL Scouting Combine, starting later this month, Uche will make an impression and move up in the eyes of those putting together NFL mock drafts.
