Julian Edelman is doing what he can to keep Tom Brady in New England. The Patriots receiver turned himself into a meme on Tuesday to send a message to his quarterback.
Edelman, who caught a career-high 1,117 receiving yards from Brady in 2019, took the boombox scene from “Say Anything,” and applied it to his and Brady’s situation. In the scene, Lloyd Dobler (John Cusack) plays the song “In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel to Diane Court (Ione Skye) in an effort to keep their relationship alive. It’s Edelman’s silly take on Brady’s looming free agency this offseason.
Edelman clearly doesn’t want Brady to go.

On Super Bowl Sunday, the NFL world was buzzing about Brady’s contract negotiations with the Patriots. Though New England is reportedly willing to offer $30 million per year, Brady and the Patriots have no agreement in place. In fact, the quarterback is interested in delaying his decision to get closer to the new league year in March, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
So how serious is Edelman? Naturally, the post is playful spin on the situation. But it’s also easy to imagine the receiver genuinely doesn’t have interest in playing for another quarterback next season.
