It hadn’t taken long for Michigan reserve offensive lineman Stephen Spanellis to decide he’d spend his fifth-year elsewhere.

The now-former Wolverine made his announcement that he’d be seeking a transfer shortly after the conclusion of the VRBO Citrus Bowl on Jan. 1, seemingly out of place, given that the three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree would be in contention for a starting role in 2020. But he wasn’t going to wait around to find out whether or not he’d earned it in his last go-round.

It took Spanellis just over a month to find his next landing spot, and it seems that it will take the Maryland native close to home, as he’s chosen Nashville as his next destination.

Spanellis announced on Instagram that he’s selecting Vanderbilt to finish out his career.

Given Vanderbilt’s academic reputation, it’s hardly a surprise that the Gilman (MD) native, who often led the team in GPA, would select another institution of high scholastic regard.

As a fifth-year senior, Spanellis is eligible immediately, and has one year left of eligibility.
