You may or may not have any vested interest in who wins the Super Bowl this year. But odds are you will be watching and if you’d like another reason to watch, here’s one. It’s the last chance for a few players who are headed for free agency to show they are worthy of a big payday this March. If you are looking for players who could be of special interest to the Raiders, there are a few for each team. Let’s start with these three Chiefs players.
DT Chris Jones (25)
Looks like Jones will be a go for the game and that’s big for the Chiefs. Free agency is going to be big for Jones and whichever team snags him. He’s a beat wherever he lines up on the line, putting up 15.5 sacks from the defensive end spot in 2018 and 9.0 last season at defensive tackle on his way to the Pro Bowl. Of course, he didn’t get to play in that Pro Bowl because he was prepping for a much bigger and consequential game. He is already going to cash in, but a big game will have teams salivating over adding him to the mix.
CB Kendall Fuller (25)
Fuller was a good looking slot cornerback his first couple seasons in the NFL in Washington under Jon Gruden’s brother Jay. After putting up 4 interceptions and 10 pass breakups, he was sent to Kansas City in the Alex Smith trade. He improved his pass defense numbers to 12 knockdowns with a career high 82 tackles along with 2 interceptions in 2018. This season was a bit of a down year for him, but he’s still a respected and versatile cornerback and the Raiders could use one.
CB Bashaud Breeland (28)
As it happens, Breeland and Fuller were both on that same Washington secondary in 2016-17. Breeland put up some very good numbers in his first four seasons there, averaging 15 pass breakups per season. Since then he has signed a couple one-year contracts, first in Green Bay and then with Kansas City. He’s been the full time starter for the Chiefs. He very nearly intercepted Ryan Tannehill in the AFC Championship game, but it was overturned on review.
