One of the biggest free-agent decisions that the Washington Redskins will have to make this upcoming offseason has to do with one of their own players. The Redskins will have to decide what to do with right guard Brandon Scherff, who is a three-time Pro-Bowler and lifetime Redskin.
Washington drafted Scherff with the No. 5 overall pick in 2015, and they have watched as he’s become one of the best guards in the NFL. Now, as Scherff enters his first offseason as an unrestricted free agent, he will have a chance to get paid top dollar by whichever team wants him most. According to Pro Football Focus, that team may be the Seattle Seahawks.
Seattle is lucky it has one of the most mobile quarterbacks in the NFL who can avoid pressure like no one else in Russell Wilson because his offensive line was 30th in PFF pass-blocking grade last year. Brandon Scherff is one of the best blue-chip interior offensive linemen available in free agency and understandably so. He’s produced PFF overall grades above 70.0 in each of his five seasons with Washington and was among the 11 best right guards each year.
There’s a good chance that the Redskins decide to pony up and pay Scherff whatever he wants because they know the value that he brings to an offensive front. Of course, there is also the chance that his asking price is a bit too high, and they choose to let him walk, knowing that they have a young guard in Wes Martin who showed some promise in 2019.
Whatever happens, it’s almost guaranteed that whichever team Scherff suits up for in 2019, they will feel confident that they have the answer at the RG position.
