Grant Williams has become a fan favorite among Boston Celtics fans given his likable personality and charitable work off of the court but the referees weren’t buying his schtick on Monday night.
The first-round pick logged just five minutes in a 139-107 blowout win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Martin Luther King Jr. Day but Williams still managed to make the highlight-reel afterward.
With just over two minutes left in the game, Williams drained a corner 3-pointer in front of the Lakers’ bench. He then proceeded to give a thumbs up to DeMarcus Cousins and was immediately hit with a technical foul.
The T was the first of his career and was perhaps the most fitting way that Williams could ever receive a technical foul given his personality on the floor.

Both Williams and Cousins appeared to be in good spirits after the technical foul was issued as Cousins even appeared to say to a teammate, “That was cold.”
We’re amateur lip-readers, though, so Cousins could have said something else instead.
Williams finished with three points and three rebounds.
