The Jacksonville Jaguars might not be close to being the league’s most popular teams but their quarterbacks are well loved. Whether you’re team Gardner Minshew II or team Nick Foles, there are many others with you as both are pretty much a big deal in the NFL.
The love for both quarterbacks became especially clear this season despite the Jags’ struggles as both cracked the top-50 in merchandise sales, according to the NFLPA. Minshew came in at the No. 42 spot while Foles came in at the No. 46 spot.
Foles’ popularity likely comes from his time in Philadelphia where he was viewed as a hero for his run in the 2017 playoffs and Super Bowl LII. A lot of his supporters from Philly likely followed him to Jacksonville and it translated in the sales category it appears.
Minshew also established a strong following before coming to Jacksonville as he was a very popular quarterback for his run with Washington State University. With his trademark mustache, he led the program to its best season ever, accumulating a record of 11-2.
After his run in college, Minshew Mania spread from Duval to the whole nation after he took over and had success in Foles’ place. In pretty much every game he took part in (whether it was home or away) aviator shades, Minshew jerseys and shirts, mustaches and bandanas could be seen throughout the crowd so it’s hardly shocking to see his sales up.
