Richard Sherman, Darrelle Revis trade words on Twitter

Richard Sherman didn’t take kindly to a critique from former NFL CB Darrelle Revis.

Former Jets, Buccaneers, Patriots and Chiefs cornerback Darrelle Revis had a take about Richard Sherman. It was not a positive one, which is not something Sherman typically takes kindly.

Revis implied on Twitter during the 49ers’ 37-20 rout of the Packers in the NFC championship that Sherman was not a good cornerback because he “hides” in a zone defense.

The tweet was accompanied by a photo of Revis’ television screen during the replay of Packers wide receiver Davante Adams running by Sherman for a 62-yard reception.

Sherman found the tweet after the game and responded … harshly.

Sherman also gave Revis a grammar lesson.

Revis’ ninth season was his return to the Jets in 2014. He posted five interceptions and made the Pro Bowl. New York, however, won 10 games and missed the postseason.

The former Jets corner fired back, citing his nine total takeaways as a 30-year-old in his ninth NFL campaign.

Then Sherman came over the top and pulled out playoff stats. He pulled down an interception to end the NFC championship game. It was his fourth postseason interception. He also has 12 pass breakups.

Revis had three interceptions with eight pass breakups in his playoff career. He won a Super Bowl in 2014 with the Patriots against Sherman’s Seahawks. Sherman won a Super Bowl the previous year.

Revis hasn’t played since getting in five games for the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2017 campaign. That team fell to the Titans in the first round of the playoffs.

There’s no doubt both players were at the pinnacle of the cornerback position at their respective peaks. Watching them go at it online is a fun sidebar while Sherman and the 49ers celebrate their trip to Super Bowl LIV.
