Jay Glazer offers his take on whether Bengals should trade first overall pick

Here’s an interesting takeaway on the Bengals at No. 1 from an expert.

The idea of the Cincinnati Bengals trading the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL draft — and the rights to Joe Burrow — is a topic that won’t go away in the coming months.

Odds are it won’t happen. The Bengals need a quarterback and not only is Burrow great, he happens to call Ohio home.

But playing the “what if” game is a big part of the offseason, so let’s look at a comment from a notable expert like Jay Glazer of The Athletic on the subject:

I think they are already loving what they see from Joe Burrow. There are a lot of teams that could be in love with him, someone could offer up an absolutely game-changing, ridiculous trade offer. But it would have to be a truly ridiculous trade offer to move on from him because he’s someone you can build around for a long time. Obviously, Zac Taylor comes from a quarterback coach background, I would think that makes the most sense.

Indeed, Bengals coaches have already played it off like they haven’t decided on Burrow yet. But when a quarterback prospect is this good and the added storyline of a homecoming can help a team struggling with attendance and image issues, the predictable is likely to happen.

And as Glazer hints, a trade out would have to have a net gain of historic proportions in the range of well over two first-round picks, for starters.
