Floyd Mayweather seems ready for another fight against Conor McGregor

Mayweather-McGregor 2?

Add Floyd Mayweather to the list of fighters who are ready to challenge Conor McGregor after his stunning victory over Cowboy Cerrone at UFC 246 on Saturday night.

McGregor made quick work of Cerrone in Las Vegas, with a win in just 40 seconds. The fight drew the attention of Mayweather, who fought McGregor in August 2017 in the MMA fighter’s boxing debut. Mayweather won, and set a record for the longest active unbeaten run for a pro boxer (50 wins). McGregor, meanwhile, took another hiatus from fighting — until his match against Cerrone. And it was quite the comeback.

Here’s a look at Mayweather’s reaction on Instagram after McGregor’s win. Mayweather seems to want to set up a rematch.

Unfortunately for Mayweather — and McGregor’s other challengers, like Jorge Masvidal and Justin Gaethje — UFC president Dana White explained he’s working for McGregor’s next match to come against Khabib Nurmagomedov.

“When you look at this for Khabib — Khabib is 28-0, he’s undefeated, and you start talking about this kid’s legacy,” White said after the match at UFC 246, via MMAFighting.com. “First of all, to 28-0 in this sport, I don’t care who you fought, it’s tough to do. Well, this guy’s a world champion. After tonight and with how Khabib won the fight the first time and how famous Khabib has become since that first fight, we’re looking at [Marvin] Hagler-[Tommy] Hearns. [Muhammad] Ali-[George] Foreman. Ali-[Joe] Frazier. This is a massive fight with global appeal. It’s the fight that you make. It’s the fight that makes sense. It’s the fight for the 155-pound title.”

McGregor said he would be “excited to get that one back” after losing to Nurmagomedov in August 2018. So while the idea of a rematch between McGregor and Mayweather sounds like a lot of fun, it’s also probably not feasible — at least not in the foreseeable future.
