Larry Fitzgerald left out of list of best postseason players

Despite a postseason record and heroics in multiple decades in the playoffs, he doesn’t make the cut.

Many players have been their best when the lights are the brightest — in the postseason. Legacies are made and these players help their teams win the most important games.

As we are in the middle of the postseason this year, Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar put together a list of the 25 best postseason players in the Super Bowl era.

Naturally, there are names we expect to see — Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Terry Bradshaw and Troy Aikman. However, there was one notable omission — Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald.

Fitz didn’t even make the cut of the top 25 despite his postseason greatness. His first trip to the postseason following the 2008 season was historic. He set an NFL record with 30 catches for 546 yards and seven touchdowns. He scored the go-ahead touchdown in the final minutes of the Super Bowl, getting the Cardinals so close to a championship.

He had another 12 catches for 159 yards and two touchdowns in two postseason games the following season.

He then had postseason heroics in the 2015 postseason, when he had the overtime catch against the Green Bay Packers and subsequent touchdown catch to win the game.

He hasn’t played in as many playoffs games as many of the players on the list, but he undoubtedly has been one of the best postseason players when he has had the opportunity.
